Something deeply worrying about walking down a road and understanding the path you just trampled on is shaking.
But in New York – a city where nothing is shocked anymore – a street performance artist called “Kevin Carpet” has set up eyebrows to force people to do exactly.
His art? Undetermined. His medium? Carpet.
Something like this: by wrapping yourself in the carpet and ying without movement in the public spaces, inviting strangers to walk on it.
Some think it’s art, some think it’s a joke – and others just think it’s incredibly upset.
Kevin is not a stranger out of attention. He has been in the business of the “human carpet” since the 80s.
But his latest “exhibition” has reigned the oldest NYC debate. Is Kevin Carpet just weird old?
In a clip posted on social media, which has collected over 3.5 million views, many have called it “perverse” and “sick”.
Kevin can be seen lying on flowers on the wide day while unbearable pedestrians jump or step on it. He can even be heard saying “ow” as a couple walk on it.
The woman filming the video, NYC Local Taylor Pare, reveals that Kevin has been “going for years with his carpet, usually on the party scene.”
“What I don’t want for this is that it’s not consensual at all because no one knows there is a person there,” she says in Tiks video.
“Alarms alarming. Someone can travel. Whether it’s a sexual desire or fetish, it must be revealed to all parties,” she adds.
At first it can be heard by warning two men who seem reluctant to approach the carpet.
“There’s a person there,” she says.
“Is it like an art thing?” Asks a man.
“No, they just like to be in the carpets and not tell people about it,” she replies.
Viewers were left on stage with some duplication Kevin as the “Kingdom of NYC Club”.
“This is Kevin Carpet !!! I’ve gone to dance in Queens 10 years ago when he was on stage. It is amazing that he is still around,” said one viewer.
“That’s just Kevin Carpet,” said another greedy person.
One viewer came to Kevin’s determined protection, saying, “I actually see the very messy you are undergoing on the internet criticism – to consider your business?”
Others were not so ready to wash the situation under the rug.
“That’s not even funny. That’s strange,” said a worried viewer.
“I’m very sick of perverse people,” echoed another.
In an interview with Cut in 2022, Kevin insisted that his passing was not a sexual fetish.
“This is not a fetish to me. I don’t remove it,” he said.
“It is a Zen -type state. I am feeling people, listening to what they are talking about. I am watching everyone hanging out, and I just stages from being a person.”
In a 2008 interview, Lady Gaga withdrew for a “sex holiday” where “there are many people hanging, getting drunk, spending a good time”, and “a boy wrapped in a carpet under the grass”.
